[MV Review] BLACKPINK - "Playing With Fire"

The second song to be released from their new set, and their best song overall. One of the best of the year to be honest. Remember the theory that if Teddy and Han Ye Seul broke up then YG songs would get better? Well a few days before this was released they announced to have officially broken up, so either this had been going on for some time or Teddy wrote and produced this song overnight because this song is really fucking good. Again, I love everything about Lisa's presence in the MV. SOURCE This is the upbeat electro-pop song 2NE1 should have released a long time ago. What makes "Playing With Fire" work is that it's not sloppy and trying to be something so hard that it adds in extra bells and whistles which in the end wind up making and worse song, not a better one. The song has one pleasant melody, good usage or rapping and instruments, a really nice pace (not to fast, not to slow) and makes use of a good beat without over-trapping it. The song stands out among ...

[MV Review] BLACKPINK - "Stay"

Blackpink has released two new songs that are actually good. Naturally I'm going to review the lesser of the two since bad news should always come before good news. When Blackpink first debuted I didn't mind "Boombayah" and hated "Whistle"; after listening to them a few more times I came around to liking both, however they weren't anything great in my ears. But the girls are fun, pretty, talented an deserve more than YGs shitty superiority-media play so I'd be on the look out for the group should they release anything in the future that was truly great. "Stay" is the "Whistle" of this release, but's no where near the same level of yolo-trap lord. It's an okay acoustic ballad that utilizes a softer side to the group. The verses are quite mellow and melancholy, however they build into an upbeat and peppy chorus that gets enhanced with harmonica. It won't be everyone's cup of tea however I can see it doing well with t...

[MV Review] Twice - "TT"

Twice continues on their roll of success with "TT", which is their best effort yet. I've always liked Twice, "Like Ohh Ahh" was a good debut that I still replay now and "Churro" is still as addictive as it was when I first listened to it. However "TT" takes their formula and improves upon it tremendously. Speaking of tremendous things... SOURCE "TT" is similar to "Like Ohh Ahh" and "Churro" in the sense that it has the members switch between lines quickly that creates diversity in the verses, however instead of it coming off jarring the members are able to mix together more smoothly and that's all thanks to "TT"'s awesome instrumental. It takes the current house trend with a thumping beat but instead of adding more Western elements to it like SM or YG it inserts more K-pop elements with the usage of synthesizer and having a chorus that speeds things along instead of slowing them down. (No shade ...

[MV Review] SHINee - "1of1"

After over a year of waiting SHINee follow up the awesome "View" with the decent "1of1." Onew is still incredible. Would totally jump onyu. There is no better to way to start a SHINee review, not even sorry. (I would leave it at that but seeing as I wasn't hired for my trolling abilities...) "1of1" is just okay. That's it. It's not terrible it's not great. It's just pretty decent, and I'm inherently fine with that; however I'm used to SHINee's releases musically blowing me away and this just ain't it. This song is like bubble gum, it's starts off really nice but eventually you either get sick of the same flavor being in your mouth or the gum loses it's flavor and you have to eventually spit it out and wash it down with some  refreshing ice water . The song starts off nice however the initial sound just isn't strong enough to sustain the rest of the song. Better luck next time guys. The video is the highlight ...

[MV Review] Infinite - "The Eye"

Infinite is back and as consistent as ever! Infinite is one of k-pop's most consistent boy groups, and I mean that in a good way. Since debut they've had a signature sound, and have kept to it without getting boring. Even their worst song, awful "Man In Love", still had a very Infinite sound to it. "The Eye" doesn't do much to change that sound but that doesn't make it any less of a great release. "The Eye" has the instruments I've grown accustomed to hearing from Infinite: piano, strings (violins), synths, and hard hitting drums. The song starts of slow and gradually builds into the awesome chorus, the only complaint is that the electronic beat that comes right after the chorus could have been implemented better. I feel like it was shoehorned in there five minutes before the album had to be mass-produced. The second verse does a good job of carrying the electro beat though, thus making the next little sputter less jarring. Overall the ...

[Review] Diplo, CL, RiFF RAFF, OG Maco - Doctor Pepper

CL + a can of Dr. Pepper + rushing a song to get home = disaster Normally when I review a song I listen to it a lot of times, but in this case twice was the most I could manage. It would seem unfair to give my verdict on it when I've heard it so few times, plus I didn't want to delve too far into the part of my brain that stores shit music for fear of remembering other nightmares that I wiped from my memory. Thankfully, someone else has already reviewed it for me. Are you a wizard? If you really must listen to a song about Dr. Pepper, here's a lower budget but much better one with actual rhymes: At least there is still some semblance of hope left for Blackjacks because there is going to be a full album with more songs. I'm not too hopeful though.
